The human body is a remarkable instrument, but modern life takes its toll. Over the years we develop habits of movement and tension that cause backache, headaches, stiff necks and a host of other complaints. All too often we accept these as part of life. It needn’t be that way.

The Alexander Technique aims to unravel the years of tense muscles and poor postural habits we all accumulate. It teaches you how to avoid unnecessary strain and tension in everyday activities - standing, walking, sitting, bending, or even using a computer.

By learning to release tension, move more fluently and to minimise your own bad habits, you’ll find the Technique can help you feel calmer, taller, lighter, and looser.

The teacher will work with you on a one-to-one basis, starting by observing how you stand, sit, bend and move. Gentle hand movements and guidance will be used to move you while in balance and help you to become more consciously aware of the interaction between mind and body. Your teacher will work with you to re-educate your way of standing, sitting, lying, walking and lifting or with whatever activity is appropriate for each individual's requirement. You can practise at home between sessions. Some people say that it has a dramatic effect on them - that they feel lighter and more energetic after a session. There is no set number of lessons required; this can be agreed between the individual pupil and the teacher. However, to acquire a real understanding of FM's Technique most people need between

10 - 20 lessons.
